Introduction
We are excited to announce an opening for a Unit Manager for the Theatre department at Life Beacon Bay Hospital. This is a vital role where the successful applicant will take charge of managing and coordinating clinical practices and resources within the unit. Your leadership will help achieve our hospital’s goals of delivering high-quality care, fostering growth, and supporting our staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Leadership
- As the Unit Manager, you will lead the team in implementing the nursing care plan. You will coordinate and ensure the delivery of the correct treatment within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) program, all aimed at achieving the best possible clinical outcomes for our patients.
- You will act as the clinical expert, guiding staff to reach desired patient outcomes.
- It is crucial to ensure that both staff and students are competent in their roles. You will define the criteria for effective professional socialization, create a supportive learning environment, and provide constructive feedback to relevant parties.
- Fostering customer satisfaction is essential. You will address any patient complaints, conduct quality care rounds, and perform clinical practice audits to monitor care levels, reporting your findings accordingly.
- You will implement national quality initiatives within the unit, focusing on improving clinical outcomes and providing regular reports on progress.
- Identifying clinical and safety risks is vital. You will monitor trends and take corrective actions as needed.
- Leadership and People Management
- Demonstrate strong leadership that reflects our Life Healthcare values, operational model, nursing strategy, and the profession’s image. Actively support Life Healthcare initiatives and projects to enhance productivity.
- You will oversee all people-related processes within the unit, driving engagement and morale among the staff.
- Financial Management
- Play a key role in business planning and budgeting processes, ensuring that nursing costs align with our budget.
- Manage stock utilization effectively and drive product management processes in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- You will ensure staff are well-trained in operating equipment and work with stakeholders to keep all equipment functioning properly, creating a safe environment for our patients.
- Building Relationships
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including heads of departments (HODs), enabling functions, patients, family members, and service providers. This involves regular communication and feedback.
- Develop a productive relationship with doctors, agreeing on a professional code of conduct, fostering effective communication regarding positive patient outcomes, and advocating for Life Healthcare. You will also discuss the impact of industry challenges on the nursing profession.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- A certified qualification in your specialty is essential.
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Relevant nursing experience that meets the critical outputs outlined above.
- Proven leadership and people management skills are a strong advantage.
- Basic knowledge of labor legislation, financial principles, and supply chain management is beneficial.
- An understanding of the private healthcare industry and its challenges would also be a plus.
- Proficiency in computer applications is required.
- A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel.
