Job Title: Registered Nurse | Medical 1

Location: Life Cosmos Hospital, Mpumalanga
Reports to: Unit Manager, Emma Mabuza

Overview

Life Cosmos Hospital is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse for the Medical 1 unit. In this role, you will be an essential part of our healthcare team, providing comprehensive care to patients. You will collaborate closely with your colleagues, patients, and their families to ensure that everyone receives the highest quality of care. This position is crucial in meeting the hospital’s goals and objectives while focusing on patient well-being.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care and Support

  • Holistic Nursing Care: You will provide comprehensive nursing care, ensuring that each patient’s physical, emotional, and psychological needs are met during their stay.
  • Effective Communication: Regularly communicate with patients and their families to provide them with clear and accurate information about their health and care plans.
  • Daily Care Rounds: Conduct thorough daily rounds to assess patient conditions, investigate any complaints, and take appropriate actions to resolve issues.
  • Orientation for Staff: Ensure that all nursing staff receive department-specific training to provide the best care to our patients.

2. Cost Management

  • Labour Hours Oversight: Monitor staff working hours to ensure efficient use of resources, including managing both debit and credit hours effectively.
  • Stock Management: Work to minimize unnecessary stock wastage and ensure all equipment is well maintained and functioning properly.

3. Risk Management and Safety

  • Infection Control: Implement measures to prevent infections and other risks, complying with established ISO standards to promote a safe environment.
  • Health and Safety Standards: Ensure that all health and safety protocols are followed to protect patients and staff.

4. Building Relationships

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Establish and maintain positive relationships with doctors and other healthcare professionals, understanding their preferences and needs to enhance the care environment.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with your nursing team and other departments to provide coordinated care that meets the needs of all patients.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Degree or Diploma in Nursing is required.
  • You should have at least 2 years of nursing experience in a medical setting.
  • Current registration with the relevant professional regulatory body is essential.
  • Familiarity with the private healthcare industry and its challenges is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary for documentation and communication.
