Introduction
An exciting opportunity has opened up for a Registered Nurse in the MICU Section B at Life Cosmos Hospital located in Mpumalanga. This position reports directly to the Unit Manager, Tretia Mlilo. The selected candidate will play a vital role in ensuring high-quality patient care in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), aligning with the hospital’s clinical protocols and strategic goals. Your commitment and skills will be essential in promoting the best outcomes for our patients and supporting our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be expected to manage several critical functions to ensure smooth operations and quality care:

  1. Cost Management:
  • Staffing Efficiency: Monitor employee work hours, managing both debit and credit hours effectively to optimize labor costs.
  • Inventory Control: Work to minimize unnecessary stock wastage and ensure the maintenance of essential medical equipment.
  1. Quality Patient Care:
  • Orientation for Staff: Ensure that all team members undergo thorough department-specific training and orientation to deliver the best care.
  • Daily Rounds: Conduct daily care rounds and promptly investigate any patient complaints to ensure that concerns are addressed.
  • Patient Communication: Provide clear, accurate, and comprehensive information to patients and their families throughout their hospital stay.
  • Assisting Physicians: Support doctors in daily procedures and treatments to enhance patient outcomes.
  1. Risk Management (SHEQ & Infection Control):
  • Preventative Measures: Monitor and implement safety protocols to minimize risks within the unit.
  • Hygiene Standards: Maintain high cleanliness and hygiene standards to adhere to infection control and safety policies.
  • ISO Compliance: Ensure compliance with ISO requirements to support effective infection control practices.
  1. Stakeholder Relationships:
  • Understanding Needs: Identify the preferences of doctors and the needs of stakeholders, integrating them into the unit’s operations for improved collaboration and care.

Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • A relevant Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
  • At least 2 years of nursing experience in an ICU setting is essential.
  • An ICU qualification is a significant advantage.
  • Current registration with the appropriate professional or regulatory body.
  • A solid understanding of the private healthcare sector, including its challenges and key players, is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer skills is necessary.
