
The Department of Tourism has officially opened applications for the 2025/26 SANParks Tourism Monitors Programme. This exciting Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) opportunity will see the appointment of 250 unemployed youth across various National Parks in South Africa.

The initiative aims to improve tourism safety while also equipping youth with practical skills in tourism and conservation.
The Tourism Programme
The Tourism Monitors Programme offers a seven-month job where you’ll learn in the classroom and get hands-on experience in National Parks. Those taking part will get R200 each day (about R8,000 a month) and learn about South Africa’s important tourism and nature protection areas. The programme wants everyone to join, so people with disabilities are welcome to apply.
The Tourism Key Requirements
- Looking for jobless young people between 18 and 35 years old.
- Must be South African citizens with a valid ID.
- Need at least a high school diploma or similar.
- Must live relatively close to the National Park or site, between 40 and 100 km away (need proof of address).
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English well.
- Having a college degree in tourism or environmental studies is a plus.
- Must be available to work different hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Must have their own way to get to and from work.

Fitness and Interview Process
Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete fitness assessments such as:
2.4 km run
25 pushups
25 sit-ups (within a time limit)
This is followed by a formal interview process and medical and criminal record clearance before final selection.
