NCC Group – Fire Fighter Open Position

NCC Group is looking for people who want to be Fire Fighters. They need 50 people for a set period, from November 2025 to September 2026. The job is about stopping and putting out fires in wild areas, and helping in emergencies in the Cape Winelands and Southern Suburbs. This announcement pertains to the recruitment of 50 Fire Fighters on a fixed-term contract to join a dedicated wildland fire-fighting team. Purpose:

The primary objective of the role is to contribute to a professional wildland fire-fighting team tasked with:

Using plans to stop fires from starting to lower danger.
Fighting fires to manage and put out wildfires.
Giving help in emergencies to keep people, things, and nature safe.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will undertake the following duties:

Fire-Fighting Operations:

  • Perform direct and indirect fire attack methods to combat wildfires.
  • Conduct mop-up operations to ensure fires are fully extinguished.
  • Maintain observation posts to monitor fire activity and report changes.


Fire Prevention Activities:

  • Clear alien vegetation to reduce fire fuel loads.
  • Set up irrigation systems to support fire prevention efforts.
  • Educate the public on fire safety and prevention practices.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Operate and maintain fire-fighting tools, equipment, and machinery to ensure operational readiness.

Training and Development:

  • Attend mandatory training sessions to maintain and enhance required competencies.

Physical Fitness:

  • Maintain a high level of physical fitness to meet the demands of the role.

Shift Work:

  • Participate in standby shifts as per the assigned schedule to ensure round-the-clock readiness.

Essential Requirements

To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be a South African citizen and at least 18 years old.
  • You must be able to work shifts and be on call, even on weekends and holidays.
  • You must not have a criminal history (this will be checked).
  • You must be very physically fit and in good health.

You must pass a tough pack test:

  • Distance: 4.8 km
  • Pack Weight: 20 kg
  • Time Limit: Less than 45 minutes
  • You must pass a full physical fitness test.
  • You must be checked and approved by a health professional.
  • You must be able to work well when stressed and under pressure.
  • You must follow the NCC Group’s rules about alcohol, drugs, and substance use.
  • You must work well with others and be very observant.

Recruitment Process

Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete the following assessments:

  • Physical Fitness Assessment: A rigorous evaluation to confirm physical capabilities.
  • Arduous Pack Test: As detailed above, candidates must complete a 4.8 km walk carrying a 20 kg pack in under 45 minutes.
  • Criminal Record Check: A mandatory background check to verify the absence of a criminal record.
