Introduction

Life Robinson Private Hospital is excited to announce a job opening for a qualified Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This position will report directly to the NICU Unit Manager. The successful applicant will play a vital role in our intensive care team, providing exceptional care for our tiniest patients in high care and intensive care settings. Your main focus will be to ensure each patient receives the highest quality of care that aligns with our hospital’s mission and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Ensure efficient management of staff working hours and monitor absenteeism through accurate clocking practices.
  • Maintain effective stock management by keeping track of supplies and equipment usage, ensuring everything is billed appropriately.
  • Manage and utilize ICU equipment and instrumentation correctly to support financial goals.

Patient Care:

  • Provide specialized nursing care with a focus on neonatal health.
  • Possess the necessary knowledge and skills to support neurodevelopmental care for infants.
  • Follow internal policies, protocols, and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements to maintain high standards.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients by adhering to strict infection control measures.
  • Proactively manage potential risks and communicate regularly with families about their infant’s condition and treatment plans.

Team Management:

  • Assist in training and development initiatives that support the growth of team members.
  • Communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team to foster collaboration.
  • Adhere to the nursing scope of practice and ensure the appropriate mix of skills within the team.

Health, Safety, and Quality (SHEQ) Management:

  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with ISO requirements to maintain safety standards.
  • Properly dispose of medical waste to prevent infections.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to a supportive work environment by promoting teamwork and open communication.

Requirements

  • A qualification in ICU or Pediatric Nursing Science will be an advantage.
  • General Nursing Degree or Diploma along with a Midwifery qualification.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in Neonatal Intensive Care.
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • Understanding of the private healthcare sector, including its challenges and key players.
  • Basic computer skills would be beneficial.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems effectively.
  • Own transportation is required.
