Introduction

We are excited to announce a job opening for a Ward Clerk in the Cardiac High Care unit at Life Entabeni Hospital. In this role, you will report directly to the Unit Manager and play a vital part in ensuring the smooth operation of our cardiac unit. Your main responsibilities will include managing administrative tasks and overseeing the control of medical stock within the unit.

Key Responsibilities

As a Ward Clerk, you will be essential in maintaining a well-organized and efficient environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Communication Skills: You will need to effectively communicate and interact with staff at all levels, showing respect and professionalism.
  • Time Management: Flexibility in your judgment will be crucial as you will often need to handle multiple tasks and competing demands.
  • Scheduling and Organization: You will maintain calendars, plan meetings, and organize visits from external parties to ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Inventory Management: You should have a solid understanding of medical supplies and their billing processes to ensure the unit is well-stocked and properly billed.
  • Administrative Support: This includes performing secretarial duties, ordering supplies, and managing patient billing.
  • Attention to Detail: You will work with high-value products and must ensure accuracy in billing and record-keeping.
  • Telephone Skills: Demonstrating good telephone etiquette is vital when communicating with patients, families, and healthcare staff.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you should meet the following criteria:

  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in an administrative or stock controller role. Experience in a hospital setting is a plus.
  • Education: A Matric certificate is required.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in computer applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email is essential. Familiarity with hospital management systems (e.g., SAP, Impilo) will be advantageous.
  • Customer Service: Experience in customer service is desirable, as you’ll be interacting with patients and staff regularly.
