Introduction
Life Anncron Hospital has exciting job openings for qualified Registered Nurses specialized in Intensive Care Units (ICU). These positions report directly to the Unit Manager. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients. This role is essential to ensuring positive outcomes for our patients and aligns with the strategic goals of our hospital.
Key Responsibilities
As a Registered Nurse in the ICU, you will be responsible for the following:
Quality Patient Care:
- Deliver both basic and advanced nursing care tailored to the needs of critically ill patients.
- Maintain open lines of communication with patients and their families about their conditions.
- Administer medications ethically and legally, following established protocols.
- Review and adhere to internal policies to ensure compliance with best practices.
- Implement quality management initiatives specific to the ICU setting.
- Act as a patient advocate by communicating urgent needs to case management and alerting physicians about any concerns.
Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with a diverse team of healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior staff to support their professional development.
- Ensure that the ICU team functions within their scope of practice, utilizing the right skills for effective care delivery.
- Supervise daily tasks to ensure that patient care responsibilities are fulfilled.
- Encourage team participation in company-wide initiatives, such as the CARE program and Domino projects.
Cost Management:
- Monitor and manage inventory and supplies in line with unit-specific policies.
- Adhere to company policies when managing staff hours and leave.
Infection Control and Safety:
- Foster a safe and supportive environment for patients to minimize infection risks.
- Promote workplace safety by reporting any incidents or hazards to the Quality Manager.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Conduct in-service training to familiarize the team with doctor-specific preferences.
- Follow doctors’ instructions accurately after patient rounds.
- Support other team members in their responsibilities.
Equipment Management:
- Regularly check that all medical equipment is functional and report any issues to the Unit Manager and Clinical Engineer.
- Educate and supervise staff and doctors on the proper use of specialized medical equipment.
Record Keeping:
- Ensure that all patient records are completed accurately and stored securely, following legal and ethical standards.
Requirements
To qualify for this role, candidates should possess the following:
- A relevant Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- A Diploma in a nursing specialty.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Willingness to work both day and night shifts.
- Familiarity with the private healthcare sector and its challenges is a plus.
- Basic computer skills.
- A curious and energetic attitude to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
