
Job Title: Registered Nurse | Theatre

Introduction:
We are excited to announce an opening for a Registered Nurse specialized in Theatre at Life Cosmos Hospital in Mpumalanga. In this role, you will report directly to Clara Vickory, our Theatre Matron. Your primary responsibility will be to support the surgical team in carrying out surgical procedures efficiently and safely. Additionally, you will play a vital role in ensuring our patients receive the best possible care, aligning with the hospital’s and company’s goals for quality healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management
- You will be responsible for managing theatre clocking times to ensure accurate billing for surgical procedures.
- Make sure that all consignment stock, medical equipment, and prosthetic devices are charged according to our hospital’s policies.
- Participate in regular stock audits to help keep track of supplies and ensure everything is in order.
2. Management of Theatre Equipment
- Educate and guide staff on the proper use of theatre equipment and tools to ensure safe and effective operations.
- Monitor the functionality of all theatre equipment and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
3. Providing Quality Patient Care
- Collect necessary information from patients before their surgery and check on them post-operatively to monitor their recovery.
- Help ensure patients are comfortable and well-prepared during surgical procedures, assisting the medical team as needed.
4. People Management and Team Support
- Provide training tailored to theatre procedures and evaluate the competence of your team members to enhance their skills.
- Assist the Unit Manager in monitoring both regular and overtime hours of the theatre staff to maintain efficient operations.
- Offer feedback to the Unit Manager regarding team performance to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
5. SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) Management
- Ensure that all staff members wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with ISO standards to promote safety in the theatre.
- Manage the proper disposal of medical waste to control the risk of infection and maintain a safe environment.
6. Building Relationships with Stakeholders
- Attend meetings for reviews and consultations to maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders.
- Foster good relationships with external stakeholders by reporting any unresolved issues to the Unit Manager in a timely manner.
Minimum Requirements:
- A General Nursing Degree or Diploma is required.
- Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- A specialized diploma in theatre nursing is necessary.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a theatre environment, along with the technical skills to meet the job’s requirements.
- Understanding the private healthcare sector and its challenges is advantageous.
- Basic computer skills will be beneficial in this role.
