UNISA doesn’t offer paramedic courses right now, but other schools have programs that let you register with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Diploma in Emergency Medical Care (D9E01Q) – University of Johannesburg (UJ)
Requirements: National Senior Certificate with at least 26 points, including English, Math, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences at a certain level.
Cost: Not listed, but you can apply for NSFAS funding.

THREE. Diploma in Emergency Medical Care – NetCare
Requirements: National Senior Certificate with 24 points, including English, Math, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences at a certain level.
Cost: R850 to apply; total cost R111,200.

FOUR. Emergency Medical Care program at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)
Entry Needs: A National Senior Certificate with a score of 28, including a level 3 pass in Math, Physics, Biology, and English.
Costs: Not stated, but students can apply for NSFAS.

FIVE. ER24 Paramedic Training
ER24, a well-known private healthcare company, provides a full paramedic course with Mediclinic Higher Education.
SIX. MediClinic Higher Education offers a Diploma in Emergency Care.
You need a NCV, Senior Certificate, or NSC with 23 APS points. Your marks should include level 3 in Mathematics, and level 4 in English, Physical Sciences, and Life Sciences. Registration costs R390. The first year is R100,429.78 and the second year is R99,066.15. Bursaries can help with costs. You can become a paramedic with this diploma.
SEVEN. Basic Ambulance Assistant courses are for beginners. They teach you what you need to know to start as an emergency care assistant.
EIGHT. UJ offers a Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care (F9E01Q).
You need a Senior Certificate or NSC with 21 APS points. This must include level 5 in English, and level 3 in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, plus level 4 in Life Sciences. The fees are not listed, but NSFAS funding is an option. It leads to entry-level jobs in emergency care.
NINE. Medi Clinic Higher Education also has a Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care.
You need a NCV, Senior Certificate, or NSC with 19 APS points. This needs to include level 3 in Mathematics or level 6 in Mathematical Literacy, plus level 3 in either Life Sciences or Physical Sciences. The fees are not specified, but bursaries are offered. You can become an Emergency Care Assistant.
TEN. Alison provides a free Fundamentals of Ambulance Care Assistant course.
Anyone can apply. You can work as an Ambulance Care Assistant after completing it.
ELEVEN. Emergency Medical Care Higher Certificate – CPUT
Conditions: NSC with 26 APS, including Mathematics LVL 3 or Maths Literacy level 6, Physical Sciences level 3, and English level 3.
