SAPS Police Trainees Recruitment for 2026 Intake
Payment
Institution Phase (Basic Training): R4500 per month
Probation Phase (After Training): R238 629 per annum
YOU NEED TO:
- Be a permanent resident of South Africa and prove it.
- Have a high school certificate or equivalent and provide proof.
- Having a standard driver’s license is an advantage.
- Be fluent in English and at least one other official language.
- Be between 18 and 35 years old and show proof of age.
- Have no prior criminal convictions. Allow the police to take your fingerprints and conduct a background check.
- Not have any visible tattoos while wearing the police uniform.
- Be prepared to swear an oath of office.
- Agree to a medical examination as determined by the National Commissioner. Be physically and mentally fit for the job.
- Pass a psychological assessment set by the National Commissioner and meet the required standards for police work.
- Be prepared to complete any training that the National Commissioner requires.
- Be willing to work in any location within South Africa.
People applying will get a medical check-up and an interview when they are being hired.
- The police will also check their qualifications, driver’s license if needed, citizenship, and where they live.
- Applicants will go through a background check.
- This includes security checks, contacting references, and checking fingerprints to see if they have a criminal record.

People who used to work for the government and were fired for bad behavior cannot work for the South African Police Service (SAPS).
- Because the police training program is physically demanding, applicants with ongoing illnesses, physical problems, or other health issues that could disrupt training might not be allowed to participate.
- If applicants don’t mention a health problem, they might be removed from the program if it’s discovered later.
