Job Overview

Life Hilton Private Hospital is currently seeking a motivated and responsible Porter to join our team. This is a key role in ensuring patients are safely and efficiently moved between hospital departments and that the hospital environment is welcoming and organized. The position involves working closely with different hospital departments, including wards, radiology, and pathology. This role will suit someone who enjoys helping others and who can be flexible with their working hours.

Key Responsibilities

As a Porter, your day-to-day tasks will include, but are not limited to:

• Transporting Patients: Safely transfer patients between hospital departments, such as wards, radiology (X-ray), doctors’ rooms, and pathology labs, following a set schedule.
• Delivering Documents: Help distribute internal memos, correspondence, and other materials within the hospital.
• Guiding Patients and Visitors: Offer clear, friendly directions to patients and visitors, guiding them to the appropriate departments within the hospital.
• Reception Area Maintenance: Keep the reception area neat and tidy. Ensure that Life Healthcare magazines and promotional materials are well-organized and available.
• Patient Pre-Admission Packs: Assist with preparing and compiling pre-admission packs for patients to ensure smooth hospital admissions.
• Other Duties: Complete other tasks as assigned by the Reception Supervisor to help with the smooth running of the hospital.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

• Educational Qualification: Matric/Grade 12 is essential.
• Work Experience: Experience working in a hospital or similar healthcare environment will be a strong advantage, though not a strict requirement.
• Shift Work: You must be willing to work flexible shifts, including night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
• Physical Fitness: Due to the physical nature of the job, it is essential that you are physically fit and able to handle the physical demands of moving patients.
• Personality: A positive, friendly attitude is important, as you will frequently interact with patients and visitors. You must also take pride in your appearance.
• Patient-Centric Focus: Understanding the needs of patients and showing compassion is crucial in this role.
• Tech Skills: Basic working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel) will be beneficial, though it is not a strict requirement.
