Introduction:
Life Healthcare’s Renal Dialysis Unit in Brits is looking for a skilled and dedicated Renal Registered Nurse or Clinical Technologist to join our team. This position is crucial in ensuring high-quality, compassionate care for patients undergoing dialysis treatments. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Unit Manager, providing holistic care to our renal patients. Your role will be focused on delivering exceptional service, improving patient outcomes, and supporting the broader goals of the hospital and company.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Delivering Patient-Centered Care

  • Provide both basic and specialized nursing care to renal patients to meet their unique needs.
  • Maintain open communication with patients and their families, ensuring they understand the treatment and the patient’s condition.
  • Safely administer medication, following legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Follow internal policies, procedures, and treatment protocols to ensure quality care.
  • Monitor patients’ health, noting any changes and informing the doctor immediately about critical issues.
  • Act as the patient’s advocate, ensuring their needs are addressed and that they receive the highest quality care possible.

2. People Management and Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure seamless care.
  • Help in the training and development of team members, fostering both personal and professional growth.
  • Ensure that all team members are working within their scope of practice to ensure optimal use of skills.

3. Managing Resources and Costs

  • Efficiently manage the stock and supplies used in the unit, adhering to specific policies to avoid wastage.
  • Oversee staff hours and leave to ensure compliance with company policies while maintaining adequate staff coverage.

4. Infection Control and Safety

  • Maintain a clean, safe environment that meets infection control standards to protect both patients and staff.
  • Report any safety or health-related incidents to the SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) Coordinator, ensuring that safety alerts are actioned promptly.

5. Building Strong Relationships with Stakeholders

  • Provide orientation to new staff on specific doctor preferences and operational procedures.
  • Assist doctors with their patient rounds, ensuring all their requests and prescriptions are carried out.
  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team, supporting each member in carrying out their duties effectively.

6. Equipment and Instrumentation Management

  • Perform regular checks on all equipment to ensure everything is in working order and report any issues to the Unit Manager and Clinical Engineer.
  • Teach staff and doctors how to use specialized equipment properly to enhance patient care.

7. Accurate Record-Keeping

  • Ensure all patient records are completed and stored according to ethical and legal guidelines.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Qualifications:
  • Degree or Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Technology with a focus on renal care.
  • Nurses must be currently registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
  • Clinical Technologists (Renal) must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Experience:
  • Previous experience working in a renal unit, with knowledge of both acute and chronic dialysis treatments.
  • Experience in handling dialysis treatments in ICU and High Care settings is essential.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including being on-call for acute dialysis treatments.
  • A valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle for traveling to different locations if needed.
  • Knowledge of operating different makes and models of dialysis machines.
