
Job Title: Quality Manager

About the Job:
Life East London Private Hospital is looking for a dedicated and experienced Quality Manager. This role is crucial in maintaining the hospital’s high standards in quality and environmental management. The Quality Manager will work closely with the Hospital Manager and the broader team to ensure that all quality systems are running smoothly. The position also involves overseeing quality efforts for Life East London Private Hospital, Life East London Renal Unit, and Life St James Hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Managing Quality Systems:
- Oversee the Integrated Quality and Environmental Management system across the hospital and related facilities.
- Ensure that quality goals are reviewed yearly and that they align with overall group objectives.
- Work with different departments to achieve these goals and keep track of progress.
2. Building Strong Relationships:
- Foster effective relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external. This includes working with hospital staff, government bodies, and other relevant parties.
- Participate in various hospital forums and networking activities to ensure quality and environmental sustainability remain top priorities.
3. Quality and Environmental Management:
- Lead projects focused on quality improvement and environmental sustainability in collaboration with department heads.
- Prepare hospital quality scorecards and monthly reports. Present these findings at hospital Quality Review meetings.
- Work with the Engineering/Services Manager to conduct environmental impact assessments and manage environmental incidents.
4. Waste Management and Sustainability:
- Collaborate with the Infection Prevention Specialist to ensure proper management and reduction of general and hazardous waste.
- Ensure that waste management follows all legal, health, and environmental guidelines.
- Lead the implementation of processes to reduce waste and manage healthcare risk waste.
5. Continuous Improvement:
- Promote continuous improvement by implementing the Life Healthcare iShift program, aimed at driving better practices within the hospital.
- Take an active role in Patient Experience Management (PXM) and the CARE program to improve patient care and service quality.
6. Incident and Deviation Management:
- Manage, report, and investigate quality and environmental incidents. Work with department heads to resolve any deviations from standards.
- Ensure all deviations identified during audits are addressed and closed.
7. Data Management:
- Oversee the InfoQuest data management system, ensuring that staff are properly trained and that data is accurately captured and reported on time.
- Use this data to monitor hospital performance, identify trends, and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
8. Risk Management:
- Conduct annual risk assessments with department heads, focusing on identifying hazards and reducing risks.
- Monitor and review risk management plans and ensure that necessary actions are taken to control risks.
- Maintain an up-to-date risk register and ensure that risk mitigation measures are in place.
9. Occupational Health and Safety:
- Lead the hospital’s Health & Safety Committee meetings and ensure all legal health and safety requirements are met.
- Assist the Hospital Manager in ensuring that the hospital complies with all health and safety regulations, particularly regarding staff safety.
- Coordinate reports of employee injuries and occupational diseases and ensure these are properly managed.
10. Emergency and Disaster Management:
- Manage the hospital’s emergency and disaster preparedness plans, ensuring they are up-to-date and effectively implemented.
- Regularly review and update emergency procedures to guarantee readiness in the event of an emergency.
11. Audits and Document Control:
- Participate in internal and external audits, helping to plan, coordinate, and implement any necessary corrective actions.
- Oversee document control processes to ensure that quality standards are properly documented and maintained.
12. Training and Development:
- Conduct training sessions to ensure that hospital staff understand quality, safety, and environmental management requirements.
- Oversee induction training for new staff, with a particular focus on legal and regulatory standards.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A Degree or Diploma in Nursing, Safety/Quality Management, or a related field.
- Previous management experience is highly beneficial.
- Strong knowledge of Safety and Health legislation.
- Experience in the private healthcare industry is an advantage.
- Proficiency in computer systems and data management.
- If applicable, current registration with the South African Nursing Council.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to build strong working relationships.
- A customer-focused approach, ensuring high levels of responsiveness to patient and staff needs.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
